SAINTS manager Ruben Selles insisted he is “not happy” with a point at Manchester United but credited his team for their performance in the 0-0 draw.

The St Mary’s side kept a third clean sheet in four league matches under Selles but remain bottom of the Premier League after a weekend of results elsewhere going the other way.

Casemiro was sent off in the first half at Old Trafford as Gavin Bazunu and David De Gea both made top stops to keep the scoresheet empty.

Selles was asked if he felt the meeting with United was a point gained or two points dropped, as Saints managed 17 shots towards De Gea’s goal without a breakthrough.

“We take the game in two parts and the first part is about the result. We are not happy, we talk about coming here to win the game,” Selles responded.

“We did our best to win the game so we are not happy with the point but really happy with the performance, we showed identity and principles in our game.

“We showed a team again playing together and wanting to get something so we’re disappointed with the point but happy with the performance.”

Saints had already been on top before Casemiro’s sending off but the momentum swung in the home team’s favour for a brief period despite being reduced to 10 men.

Selles made some minor tactical tweaks at the break and restored their dominance on United.

“We are always adjusting things, so we did,” he said. “Not massively, but we just adjusted a few things to explore a little bit more the spaces from a different angle.”

Saints still remain the joint-lowest scorers in the Premier League (20) along with Everton, with only Wolves (19) on fewer at the time of writing.

Selles insists this is not a cause for concern, adding: “I think we see a process and we are growing it. We have not been a team that has scored many goals this season so we are working in the final third.

“We want to create better opportunities and put the ball in the back of the net. We have been doing that the last few weeks but sometimes it isn’t easy in the final entry.

“Kyle Walker-Peters was unlucky to hit the post, we will work on it as we have been the rest of our parts to the game. We are not worried about it but need to step up our game.”
