SAINTS manager Ruben Selles insisted he is not “frustrated” with the club’s fans despite a touchline scene but admitted the team needed support in defeat to Crystal Palace.

The Spaniard was seen on the touchline attempting to orchestrate the St Mary’s crowd during the closing stages of the 2-0 loss.

Selles first gestured to calm frustrated groans emerging before attempting to lift the energy with another animated gesture shortly after.

He was asked, following the match, if he felt frustrated that the team – in his eyes – was not getting the support it needed from the crowd to lift them from their slump.

"No, I'm not frustrated. I just think that we need support from them,” he responded, as his side remain winless in their last six Premier League matches.

Daily Echo:

“And in those situations, when particularly nothing happened in the game, I just think that we needed the support - that's it.”

Selles added: “They have their opinion, they have their voice, it's not been a good season for us and they can express that in the way that they want.

“And for me, it was no frustration. I was just trying to get them behind us, nothing else."

Saturday’s disappointment was a fourth proverbial six-pointer under Selles, who was appointed as Nathan Jones’s permanent replacement after an interim win over Chelsea.

In facing Leeds United, Leicester City, West Ham United and now Crystal Palace, Saints have lost three of the meetings and scored just once (against Leicester).

Asked if these matches will make the difference, Selles responded: “Well, I think the difference is going to be a lot of things.

“I think of course we should get more points from the direct battles with the relegation sides, but it's not going to be only about that. It's going to be about a lot of things."
