SAINTS attacker Nathan Tella has claimed it will be “good for the fans to see everything we’ve worked on” ahead of Friday’s trip to Sheffield Wednesday.
The 24 year old could be in line to start for Russell Martin’s side in the Championship opener despite transfer interest from Premier League Burnley.
Saints visit Hillsborough (8PM kick-off) off the back of relegation last season but having worked under new boss Martin on a possession-based style.
Speaking at the club’s media day, Tella was asked what the best thing about a new season starting is – and he quipped: “Pre-season (being) over.
“Having the chance to play our first game live on Sky (Sports) against Sheffield Wednesday will be a great feeling.
“It's good for the fans to obviously see everything we've worked on in pre-season coming into play for the first game and it sets the tempo for how we want to be the whole season.”
Stuart Armstrong, who was deliberating over his future before working under former teammate Martin, also spoke to club media.
The Scotland international: “It's a long summer without football and the excitement of getting back, playing in front of fans and starting afresh and getting off to a winning start.”
