FEYENOORD goalkeeper Justin Bijlow admitted his experience has been "definitely not nice" since a failed summer transfer to Saints.
Bijlow, 26, had even travelled to England to complete medical tests and sign his contract as a Saints player before the club pulled the plug.
The Netherlands international claimed via social media that Saints backed out of the deal due to information discovered in that medical.
Bijlow has suffered from a wrist injury throughout his career, making just 17 appearances last season for Arne Slot's title-winning Feyenoord.
However, having returned to the club in August, Bijlow has failed to win back his place from German shot-stopper Timon Wellenreuther.
Having made his first league appearance on Saturday, Bijlow told De Telegraaf: “It was definitely not nice. But in my head, I was just trying to be number one all the time.
"I trained like that, prepared like that every week and pushed through that constantly. My family, girlfriend and friends dragged me on through it.”
“I have always supported Timon, and he has always supported me. I don’t think we have any problems together. That’s how we have always treated each other.”
Saints went on to sign Arsenal's Aaron Ramsdale for a fee worth up to £25million, with an initial outlay of £18m paid for the 26 year old.
Ramsdale has impressed at St Mary's despite the club's poor start to the season and kept his first clean sheet in Saturday's 1-0 win over Everton.
