Jan Poortvliet is counting the cost of the recent fixture pile-up as he faces a potential injury headache.
The head coach has not been able to plan his team for tomorrow’s trip to Preston as he normally would due to the numbers of knocks picked up by his squad.
Poortvliet will take a whole host of walking wounded with him to Preston to assess whether they will be fit on the day.
Definitely out are Adam Lallana – one of only three players to have started every Championship game this season – and Michael Svensson.
Definitely available again are Ollie Lancashire – who has served a two-game ban following his second red card of the season at Sheffield United recently – Simon Gillett and new loan signing Alex Pearce.
But there are doubts over Andrew Surman, Rudi Skacel, Joseph Mills and Chris Perry.
