AFTER an agonising wait, VT FC are celebrating promotion to the British Gas Business Southern Football League.
Despite outstanding FA appeals – including Winchester City’s – the Southern League have confirmed that Sydenhams Wessex runners-up Vospers are one of five clubs moving up to the BGB ranks from Step 5.
Assuming the current league boundaries remain roughly the same, Dave Diaper’s men should be joined in Division 1 South & West by Bedfont Green (Combined Counties champions), Hungerford Town (Hellenic League champions) and Frome Town (Western League runners-up).
The fifth promoted club, South Midlands League champions Biggleswade Town, are likely to be placed in the Southern 1 Midland Division. With Sydenhams champions Poole Town turned down for promotion for ground grading reasons, VT endured an agonising four-week wait to see if they would be allowed up in second place.
“We seem to have been in limbo for ages but this news has put an end to a horrible period of indecision and we’re really happy to be going up,” said VT boss Diaper.
“We’ve worked very hard for this – not just last season, but for the last three seasons – and we really deserve it."
