SAINTS could be turning their attentions to Wycombe Wanderers starlet Matt Phillips as Alan Pardew tries to bring in fresh width.
The Saints manager has made no secret of the fact that he is keen to strengthen out wide following the loss of last season’s two loanees Michail Antonio and Papa Waigo.
Widemen Jason Puncheon (ankle) and Adam Lallana (knee) have also missed the last few pre-season friendlies due to injury.
That leaves Saints with Lee Holmes and 16-year-old Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as predominently wide options.
It is believed Saints had two scouts present to see Phillips score on his first pre-season outing for the League Two club against Farnborough last weekend.
The 19-year-old had made a belated entry to pre season after being involved with the England Under-19 squad in their recent European Championship campaign.
