PRESTON midfielder Darren Carter has joined Millwall, after deciding his future did not lie at Saints.
The 26-year-old played for Alan Pardew in the pre-season friendly against Barnet just over a week ago.
But, as revealed in Monday's Daily Echo, Carter did not feature in Saturday's game against Reading, as he decided to return to his parent club.
That brought an end to hopes of him moving to St Mary's and he has instead joined Millwall on a three-month loan.
Before having a short trial with Saints, Carter had been training with the Lions, but a temporary move fell through.
That has been revived, though, and Carter goes into Kenny Jackett's squad for their Championship opener against Bristol City this weekend.
