Eastleigh have re-signed midfielder Ben Strevens following Andy Drury's exit and a long-term injury to Jason Taylor.

Drury made a shock return to Ebbsfleet shortly after Martin Allen was appointed as Eastleigh manager, while Taylor is in need of a hip operation.

So Allen has brought back Strevens from Whitehawk, where the 36 year-old has been for the last few months, initially as assistant to former Eastleigh boss Richard Hill.

Strevens left Eastleigh shortly after Ronnie Moore's arrival at the Silverlake Stadium, after making 84 appearances in three seasons for the Spitfires.

He also scored 15 goals, most notably the penalty in the 1-0 FA Cup win at Crewe Alexandra.

Two of his three appearances for Whitehawk were in the FA Cup ties against Stourbridge so he is cup tied for tomorrow night's second-round replay at FC Halifax Town.

But he is glad to be back at Eastleigh and reunited with Martin Allen, his manager for a season at Barnet in 2003/04 and at Gillingham in 2012/13, where they won the League Two title.

Strevens, who was assistant to Chris Todd and then Eastleigh's caretaker-manager before Moore was appointed at the end of August, was in joint charge of Whitehawk following Hill's move to Aston Villa.

He said: "I want to draw a line under everything that happened before and am looking forward to starting afresh.

"Once it was in the pipeline of course I wanted to come back. I'm happy it's all been sorted out.

"After a few months away you appreciate how good it was. Fingers crossed I'll get the chance to play, I'm looking forward to being on the pitch again."
