YORK City will be keeping an eye on Salisbury City’s free-scoring striker Matt Tubbs – if the Whites are unsuccessful with their appeal over demotion from the Blue Square Bet Premier. Salisbury-born ex-Saint Martin Foyle, the Minstermen’s manager, is a big admirer of the 25-year-old marksman, who netted 32 goals last season.
However, he also conceded that Tubbs’s expected wage demands would probably scupper any possible deal.
“You look at everything and everybody as a manager, but I don’t know if Salisbury have gone yet so we’ll have to see what happens,” said Foyle. “Things can change on a daily basis. “Matt Tubbs is a player you would like, but you have to be realistic,” he added. “He’s on fantastic money down there – more than my top earner here.” Foyle’s York lost out 3-1 to Oxford City in the BS Premier play-off final.
