SHOLING have today announced their decision to resign from the Southern League.
After four seasons in Division One South & West, three of which have ended in the play-off places, the Portsmouth Road club will be dropping back into the Sydenhams Wessex League for financial reasons.
In a statement on the club website, chairman and team boss Dave Diaper said: "It is with heavy heart I have to inform you that it is our intention to resign from the Division One South & West League at the end of the current season (2012/13) and drop down to the Wessex Premier Division.
"This decision has not been taken lightly and we have been honoured to be a member of the Southern League.
"Our decision is based purely on financial reasons. We have received planning consent on our application for a new facility and our resources will be stretched to the limit as we ensure that the project is delivered within budget.
"The new facility will provide much needed revenue and it is hoped, in time, that the club will be in the position to apply for promotion back the Southern League”.
