Jose Fonte will be fit to face Liverpool in the Capital One Cup quarter-final.
The Saints skipper was forced from the field midway through the first half of his side’s 3-1 defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
Fonte initially went down the tunnel in order to get treatment for a cut on his knee.
However, after a couple of minutes the decision was made to make a change and bring on Steven Caulker.
Ronald Koeman revealed that Fonte will be fit to face Liverpool at St Mary’s on Wednesday night and that the reason for making the change was the amount of time it was going to take to get Fonte back on the pitch again.
“Jose is ok now,” reported the Saints boss.
“It takes too long a time to come back on the pitch and so we changed.”
Saints will also have Graziano Pelle back for the last eight clash against the Reds after the Italian striker served his one-game ban for picking up five yellow cards so far this season.
