George Burley is eyeing one more centre half to complete his squad.

The Saints boss has been delighted with the performances of his team over the past few games and, despite losing star names Gareth Bale, Chris Baird and Kenwyne Jones over the summer, has rebuilt the squad to a point where it looks strong again.

The only current weakness is at centre half where Claus Lundekvam and Darren Powell have injuries.

Lundekvam undergoes ankle surgery tomorrow and will miss between six weeks and three months depending on the damage while Powell is a doubt for Saints' next game at Watford a week on Sunday.

Burley did try and buy a centre half before the transfer window closed last week but without success.

However, Championship clubs can still utilise the loan system and Burley is looking to add one more that way to supplement the squad.

He said: "That's the one area we're still a little bit short and we'll keep an eye on that in the next few weeks.

"It's an area we tried to do something about but we had no success but we'll be keeping an eye on it.

"I think it would give us that strength to push forward and we'll have a really strong squad.

"Considering what we've had to do over the last month or so I'm very pleased how it's worked out.

"We've lost three of our main players from last season and I feel the squad is getting stronger".
