SOUTHAMPTON'S John Lewis store has seen sales rise 13.5 per cent year on year over the past three months, with winter wear like gloves and scarves particularly setting tills ringing.

Charlie Mayfield, John Lewis managing Director, said: "Colder weather had a marked impact on sales in fashion and accessories. Women's and men's scarves, gloves and coats all performed particularly well.

"Sales climb steeply from now to Christmas. We are well prepared and should trade successfully."
