SOUTHAMPTON is set to hit the screens once again this year as the city’s port features in a new documentary series.
The series, provisionally titled The Channel, and due to air on BBC One later this year, will give an insight into the UK’s relationship with the English Channel.
From the businesses that use it to transport goods to the people who use it for leisure and adventure, the programme aims to get under the skin of the people and places that have a close affinity with the stretch of water.
As one of the largest ports in the UK, ABP Port of Southampton has been selected to feature in the show, and camera crews will descend upon the docks over coming weeks to capture the hustle and bustle of trade coming into and out of the port.
They will also film with some of the many businesses based at the port, potentially including Import Services, which is preparing to open an expanded warehouse on the site as part of a £3.7m investment in ABP Port of Southampton.
Nick Ridehalgh, ABP director Southampton, said: “We’re delighted to be able to give the whole of the UK a glimpse behind the scenes.
“The English Channel is so important to us as a shipping lane and, along with the port, acts as a gateway to a world of trade.”
