JOHN Weston, former chief executive of Hampshire defence giant BAE Systems has signed up to be non-executive chairman of Hamble's Insensys.
He will be expected to focus on helping develop and implement an "aggressive" growth strategy.
The wind energy and aerospace technology firm is most famous for providing the cutting edge electronically-controlled rigging on the Maltese Falcon superyacht.
Martin Jones, chief executive, said: "Insensys has gone from strength to strength and our technology has gained rapid acceptance in both wind energy and aerospace markets, we face some exciting strategic challenges and I believe John's support will prove invaluable in helping us maximise our growth"
Mr Weston said: "The future presents some interesting opportunities and challenges."
He became chief executive of British Aerospace in 1998 and oversaw its transition to BAE Systems.
In his time at the helm the business grew from sales of around £7.5 billion and 55,000 employees, located mainly in the UK, to an international group with sales of £12.5 billion, and 120,000 employees.
