AS BILLBOARDS go it’s a big one. Swedish home furnishing giant Ikea has chosen to turn a Red Funnel ferry yellow as a giant floating advertisement of its imminent arrival in Southampton.
The Isle of Wight ferry firm has ditched its traditional red and white corporate colours from the hull of its Red Osprey vessel for the first time in history in favour of Ikea’s trademark yellow and blue.
The roll-on roll-off ferry will sport the new colour scheme for 12 months as it shuttles backwards and forwards between Southampton and Cowes.
Ikea is partnering with Red Funnel for its home deliveries to the Isle of Wight to make sure that Island residents also have access to the iconic store.
Allesandra Taffe, store manager of Southampton Ikea, said: “The ferry looks fantastic and we’re all looking forward to seeing it sail out of Southampton. It also shows how committed we are to the Isle of Wight.”
Ikea Southampton will be opening its doors to an expectant public at 10am on Thursday, February 12.
