MARINE research specialist Emu has started work on ambitious plans to double the size of its Durley headquarters.
The firm, which has been based at its Mill Court premises since 1992, has now acquired an adjacent site, adding some 3000 square feet to its headquarters to accommodate its expanding business and increasing workforce.
Emu, which employs more than 80 staff, also operates from two sites on Hayling Island, where its marine laboratories are located.
The company plays a major role in meeting the challenges of global warming with its evaluation of sites both in the UK and in Europe for the development of offshore renewable power generation.
Emu operates three survey vessels involved with assessment of sites for aggregate, pipelines, cables and windfarms as well as support for the oil and gas industries.
Managing director Simon Shaw said: “We are very excited about the new expansion, which will provide significant opportunities to develop the company and our range of activities. “What’s more, we are delighted that the acquisition of the adjacent property means that we are able to stay in Durley, where we are well established. ” “We have plans to take full advantage of the global need for renewable energy, together with crucial developments in the oil and gas sector, which should provide scope for further expansion and employment.”
