TAXPAYERS are being warned not be taken in by scam emails suggesting they are due rebates from HM Revenue & Customs, a Southampton accountant is warning.
Fraudsters can target two types of information through this process, either personal and bank information or HMRC website login information.
HjsSolutions tax director, Julian Sims said: “HMRC and its staff do not send unsolicited emails to taxpayers and anyone receiving an email which appears to come from HMRC should be extremely cautious.
“I would suggest they check the Revenue website, which gives examples of scams and a chance to report these.”
