THEY’RE more used to sitting in a council chamber – but councillors from Southampton turned out to test the city’s newest gym.

The no frills contract free Pure Gym opened this week in Bitterne Road offering round the clock access to members.

Pure Gym spent about £1m converting and kitting out the former 20,000 square feet AMF Bitterne Bowl bowling alley with 170 fitness machines, changing rooms, showers and lockers.

It is the seventh gym, and first in the south, for the ambitious North Yorkshire fitness chain.

PureGym operations director Brian Scurrah, said: ““We are not about fluffy towels and cafes. We provide modern gyms, without the hassle of binding contracts and small print.

Our members are offered complete flexibility to fit their training around their personal schedules. If a 3am workout is their preference, then that’s what they can choose to do.”
