A NEW-look Hampshire superstore has created more than 100 jobs in Fareham, writes Melanie Adams.

The Sainsbury’s in Broadcut has been revamped with a new frontage, a bigger car park with 51 more spaces and a larger shop floor.

The modernisation also includes the relocation of the existing customer restaurant, new electrical, homeware and home entertainment departments, a pizza bar and a TU clothing range for adults and children.

The changes have created 104 new posts, both part and full-time. Bosses said they were inundated with applications.

Store manager Simon Rowberry said: “We filled up the roles available to the people of Fareham really quickly and we’ve recruited a high calibre of colleagues who cannot wait to deliver excellent service to our customers.”

Valerie Plant, 66, is one of those who snapped up a job as checkout worker after two years of retirement.

She said: “The training given to me has been fantastic and I can’t wait to start serving the customers.”

Building work has been ongoing for the last six months while the store has been able to stay open. It will close for one week for final improvements from 6pm on November 23. The petrol station will remain open throughout.
