ONE OF Southampton High Street's most prestigious buildings is up for sale with a guide price of £1.8m.

The landmark building, today home to Lloyds/TSB bank, is one of the few in the centre that survives from before the war and the devastation wreaked by Luftwaffe raids.

The freehold of 18/21 High Street, which produces rents of £115,000 a year, is to be auctioned at Allsop's next London auction on Wednesday, October 18.

George Walker, partner and auctioneer at Allsop said: "It is a lovely building and I would expect there to be a lot of interest in it.

"It has quite a few period features inside and Lloyds have a lease until 2011.

"Over the last 12 months, total returns on commercial property have averaged 21.3 per cent and compared to savings rates of below 5 per cent investor enthusiasm therefore remains strong for high street shop, office and commercial property investments.

"This is the first two day commercial auction that we have held since October 2005 and includes a total of 291 lots."
