THESE two silhouetted giants cast an imposing shadow across the quayside as crane lifted crane in carefully planned operation in Southampton docks in January, 1986.
The port's heavy lift vessel was given the task of moving two cranes from the Western Docks and taking them to a new home in the Eastern part of the port.
Each crane weighed 130 tons and needed to be placed accurately on dockside rails, which formed the guidelines for the cranes, which were to be used to handle scrap metal.
