FOR the most indecisive of souls, a question as simple as Indian or Chinese for supper can pose a major problem!
If that’s the case, Tiger Lilly, which specialises in both types of cuisine, could be just the place for you.
On the site that used to be Natraj and above the trendy Buddha Lounge, Tiger Lilly is a great new addition to the city’s dining scene.
The large, light and airy room is tastefully decorated with swish blacks and reds and with some funky artwork designs on the walls and the odd touch like a Buddha statuette to remind you Buddha Lounge is only a few steps away for after dinner drinks.
When we went to try it out, on a reasonably busy Thursday night, we were greeted warmly by an enthusiastic team of waiting staff.
After choosing a lovely cosy corner in which to dine, we still had another decision to make – a la carte or buffet. While perusing the menu, we enjoyed superb poppadoms and chutneys.
The a la carte menu includes one of the widest selections I have encountered of Chinese and Indian favourites and, surprisingly, some Thai dishes too.
But my companion and I decided to opt for the buffet, tempted by the offer of 24 different dishes for just £13.95.
We were not disappointed.
We returned several times to sample and savour such delights as crispy duck pancakes, Bombay aloo, prawn toast, onion bhajis, naan bread, plenty of rice, noodles, sweet and sour and chicken korma.
The standard was excellent, particularly the starters, and we spent a happy hour or so grazing.
I highly recommend the buffet – and will know exactly where to head on the a la carte menu now I’ve tasted some of the restaurant’s many specialities.
A drink downstairs to wash down a delicious meal was the perfect nightcap.
