National BBQ Week begins on May 31 and the good weather has arrived just in time for you to dust off your barbecue and try a spot of al fresco cooking.
And every good BBQ needs good quality meat, and what can be better than locally sourced produce – getting down on food miles and showcasing what the county’s got to offer.
Laverstoke Park Farm has teamed up with selected local branches of Sainsbury’s to offer shoppers locally farmed meat and dairy produce.
The farm in Overton, north Hampshire is owned and run by former Formula One world champion Jody Scheckter.
Jody started his organic/biodynamic farm in Hampshire to produce the best-tasting, healthiest food without compromise for himself and his family.
However, when he realised as a smallholder that it meant eating beef continuously for eight weeks whenever a cow was slaughtered he decided to make the same food available to the public.
Jody explains “We want to sell our food regionally and “from the field to the fork”. We sell what we produce i.e. we want to be a genuine “farm shop” not just a shop on a farm”.
Laverstoke BBQ meat boxes comprise award-winning burgers and sausages – and Laverstoke’s organic Ale and Lager perfect for the thirsty chef.
Laverstoke offers some interesting new twists on burgers and sausages for sizzling this summer, try smoky buffalo sausages, organic pork and smoked bacon sausages and buffalo burgers.
Laverstoke’s delicious range is available in stores across the south east including Hedge End, Broadcut in Fareham, Badger Farm in Winchester and Farlington branches.
Laverstoke’s BBQ meat boxes have all the favourites plus some extras for the BBQ enthusiast – The Large BBQ box, enough for a party of eight, for example contains buffalo burgers, traditional pork sausages, pork spare ribs and organic beef rump minute steaks – from the farm’s slow growing Hereford and Angus cross.
