It is a time of year when we are all guilty of being slightly over indulgent, at the very least.

Christmas brings with it a licence to devour levels of food and drink that exceed the norm, with much of what we consume coming from businesses across the country, sometimes even across the pond.

But this year, Hampshire residents are being encouraged to ‘enjoy a local Christmas.’ Hampshire Fare, a group of 200 food, drink and craft businesses ranging from pig farmers to four-star hotels, has released its 2010 seasonal guide to all things Christmas.

It includes the perfect places to get everything this winter, from free-range and organic turkeys, to novelty chocolates and even the perfect tree.

All goods listed in the guide are locally grown, reared or produced, meaning that shoppers can buy safe in the knowledge of where their food is coming from, while also helping the local economy.

Sophie Boxall, from Hampshire Fare, said: “We have a wealth of local produce here in Hampshire. People should be proud of that.”

“If you can buy quality goods from your home county, there’s no need to go anywhere else.

“We just want to make shoppers aware of the range of stuff they can get locally.”

Many producers detailed in the guide offer an online ordering facility and home delivery, making it even easier to buy seasonal goods from venues closer to home.
