The game plays through like it was the movie. It’s broken down into acts and scenes with the player taking on the role of one of the three main characters in order to utilise their skills and avoid being captured by the government. There’s Ginormica with her super-fast skates, the Missing Link with his primitive but brutal force and Bob the slimy blob of gunk.
But whilst the game can be kind of fun, once you have played through a few levels you have really seen all that it has to offer. Although the inclusion of mini-games does give a break to the monotony and a most welcome change in scenery.
The graphics, sound and presentation are all of an average standard with no real standout qualities or high points to take note of. The whole package is unfortunately reflective of this and whilst kids that love this film will probably also love the game, people with a certain standard of gaming integrity will almost certainly find it harder to warm to.
Although the gameplay itself is far from being monstrous, Monsters Vs Aliens is hardly a monster in size, can easily be raced through in no time and never gets particularly difficult. But the weird thing is that there isn’t even an option to adjust the difficulty setting – a feature that most games have included for years.
