IT’S another one of those top-down, two-stick shooters that requires the use of the left stick for movement and the right stick to aim the 360-degrees rotating gun. It's the same game that I seem to play every other week, repackaged, rebranded, re-envisioned and repainted with a brand new set of rules.
With Death by Cube there’s the sci-fi a sci-fi game on the surface mixed with a subtly violent feeling of brutality. You basically take control of a little robot, shooting other robots that spurt oil everywhere in a blood-like fashion.
But aside from the idea to blend sci-fi with the optical illusion of carnage, there's little else that sets Death by Cube out from the rest. Sure there’s the fact that you can purchase extra maps, upgrades and suits, but this means you must play through each level multiple time in order to earn the cash.
With a game genre and one which involves missions that require defending your base whilst trying to attack the enemies, you would be forgiven for thinking multiplayer would be fun – often the games are boring and heavily unoccupied.
In despite of Death by Cube not being a bad way to frivolously whittle away a few hours, it’s certainly not without it’s problems. The fact that the graphics make Alex Kid in Miracle Land look hi-tech may be overlooked because of the gameplays abundant simplicity. But it’s frustrating lust to make players replay the same levels again, and again is sheer madness.
