IT was only a few months ago that the jazz world was mourning the death of veteran trumpeter Kenny Ball.
Kenny and his Jazzmen were regulars at Eastleigh’s Concorde with their appearances stretching back to the 60s.
Kenny, who died aged 82 after suffering from pneumonia, soared to global fame with Midnight in Moscow and a string of other big hits.
Now Kenny’s son, Keith, is getting his band back on the road, headlining an international night at The Concorde on September 25.
Jazz singer Keith will be leading his father’s band and Kenny’s slot is more than ably filled by British jazz trumpeter Ben Cummings.
And they will be playing those 60s hits which made Kenny Ball a household name.
The Keith Ball Band is part of a feast of jazz entertainment and there is also a sizzling summer line up of tribute pop bands.
On August 7 the Bateman Brothers All Stars with Maggie Reeday will be paying their tribute to Louis Armstrong and Stars.
On September 11 the spotlight will be on the music of jazz legend the late Kenny Baker, who played with Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis and Tony Bennett.
Digby Fairweather, who is celebrating 35 years in the business, will bring his superb Half Dozen band to the Stoneham Lane club on September 18.
The Pasadena Roof Orchestra will sashay into The Concorde on October 16 while pop survivors The Tremeloes will be reprising a string of their hits, including Silence is Golden and Here Comes My Baby, when they headline a Friday night special on August 2.
The following night Portrait bring their amazing tribute to the music of The Carpenters, with Karen Barnett taking on the role of Karen Carpenter with spine-tingling accuracy.
Rule The World, recognised as the number one Take That tribute act, play on August 9, while the UK’s Number 1 Simply Red tribute headline on August 10.
The Alter Eagles will perform the whole repertoire of Eagles tracks, including country rock, on August 17 and the King will be in the building on August 23 when Elvis fans will be able to swivel their hips to Alvin, who has been an avid Presley fan since his early childhood.
Former lead singer of The Drifters, Roy G Hemmings, brings hits from that legendary band to the stage on August 24.
The Concorde’s fun-packed August of pop nostalgia is rounded off on the 31st with tributes to 80s icons, including Pet Shop Boys and Annie Lennox.
