SUBLIME FOLK

HELD at The Talking Heads tonight, Sublime Folk is a great night of folk.

Headlining the event is vocalist, guitarist and songwriter Maurice Dickson from Belfast. A talented musician for over thirty years, he has built an enthusiastic audience for his powerful brand of traditional and contemporary Irish folk. This journeyman has toured across the UK, Ireland, Europe and America. Maurice performs his own beautifully crafted original songs in tandem with traditional Irish instrumental music featuring the wonderful uilleann pipes of Catherine Ashcroft, from Cumbria.

Catherine is a former junior All Britain champion on pipes and tin whistle. Also appearing will be Stompin’ Dave Allen. A music graduate of Southampton University, Dave has now been hailed as one of the world’s greatest performers by Maverick Magazine and has gone on to perform at events such as Glastonbury Festival.

SAN CISCO

AFTER meeting at school in their native Australia, San Cisco made a sizeable hit with multi-million views of their YouTube channel.

The band, who describe their sound as “squelchy, crispy, streamlined, hairy, indie”, will be in the UK on Monday at The Joiners to promote the release of their single Awkward.

The song has already won Most Popular Single and Most Popular Music Video across the pond and has been viewed over four million times. Applauded for their Beach Boys-esque sound and melodic upbeat songs, the band guarantee to get you up and dancing.

OLYMPIANS

HARMONIOUS four-piece band Olympians are coming to Winchester’s Railway Inn on Saturday.

Half hailing from Norwich and the other half hailing from London, the band has influences from all around the country.

Their sound is hard to pin down, with math rock roots, fused with barber-shop Spring Offensiveesque harmonies and plenty of instrumentation and experimentation. Their songs contain soaring harmonious and downbeat melancholic pop that gets better with every listen.

Also playing will be Southampton trio The Black Fountains, Indie-rock gutairst Greg Anderson and DJ Sonic Soul Calvery.
