- HE was a hero on the Northern Soul circuit and his hits set disco floors alight.
Legendary American soul singer Edwin Starr was responsible for chart toppers like War, 25 Miles, SOS (Stop Her on Sight) Happy Radio and Eye to Eye Contact.
Tragedy struck in 2003 when Starr suffered a heart attack at the age of 61 and died while taking a bath at his home in Bramcote, near Nottingham.
But his rich musical legacy continues through his original seven piece band, The Team which is fronted by his brother, guitarist and singer Angelo Starr.
Angelo toured with his brother for more than 20 years and you can expect disco fever to grip Eastleigh’s Concorde when he steps on stage for a Good Friday special tonight.
Edwin Starr’s Band will also be showcasing other classic Motown and Soul covers like My Girl and Higher & Higher.
Completing the Concorde line-up will be Northern Soul legend Lorraine Silver.
- HIGH energy brass driven ska/mod/soul will come to a Southampton pub this weekend in the shape of The Decatonics.
Playing favourites from The Beat, The Selecter, Desmond Dekker, Secret Affair and The Lambrettas, they headline the free The Long Good Friday event at the Saints pub in Millbrook this afternoon.
Also on the bill of the ten hour shindig are young rock ’n’ rollers The Outlooks, ska, new wave and posters The Skalet Pimpernels, full throttle indie punk band The Novatones and favourites The Hiwatts crashing their way through over two hours of The Who, Small Faces, Rolling Stones, The Jam, Oasis and more.
- SUPREME British melodic hard rock group Magnum open their latest tour at The Brook tomorrow night.
In support of their compelling new 19th studio album Escape From The Shadow Garden, released last month, the material just sees them getting better with age.
Particularly spangling gems of new songs on Escape From The Shadow Garden include epic opener Live ‘Til You Die, the groove-laden, hard rocking To o Many Clowns, the poignant, balladic Don’t Fall Asleep, and gorgeous album closer The Valley Of Tears.
- IT’S Easter and it’s time for a new season of High Tide boat parties, After playing stadiums and winning gold records in South America as a pianist, Guti took a new path eight years ago – techno.
Fusing electronic music with his jazz and Latin roots, Guti quickly became one of the most interesting producers on the Latino American house scene.
This High Tide debutant has performed his live set in some of the coolest clubs in the world and will be on board on Sunday.
