IT was a special homecoming concert that neither Birdy or her fans will forget.
The supremely talented 20-year-old singer displayed a stunning array of vocals in her 90 minute set at the O2 Southampton Guildhall.
A Birdy concert is unlike anything you'll hear, the best way to describe it is like being in a beautiful dream which once you wake up you say to yourself "did that really happen", and hearing Birdy live it's simply hard not to just be in absolute awe of how good she is.
The Hampshire-born singer whose name is Jasmine Lucilla Elizabeth Jennifer van den Bogaerde, exploded onto the music scene aged 14 with her rendition of Bon Iver's 'Skinny Love' - but now with three albums to her name, it's clear that Birdy has matured as an artist into something of a rare diamond in the music business who chooses to stay away from the spotlight and simply lets her music do her talking for her.
Despite her voice being almost made for slower songs, I found it was Birdy's upbeat songs that surprised and soared.
It's hard not to feel good after hearing 'Lifted' a song that's a hidden gem on her new album Beautiful Lies, where the Asian influences are easy to hear, and with a stirring chorus with the words "Show me the way to a brighter place, keep my eyes from closing", it served as a perfect lift-me-up.
Many of her songs are piano-based, but she was equally as adept with a guitar and switches between the two seamlessly, like when she sung Words as Weapons, which is one of the lead singles from her second album Fire Within, where her rousing version had fans stomping away as they were hit with a wall of sound that swept across the Guildhall.
Her heartfelt version of Lost it All from Beautiful Lies, a piano ballad about a failed relationship, was a particular highlight, that reminded fans that her voice is equally heartbreaking as it is groundbreaking.
During the concert on Friday night the Lymington-born singer thanked her fans and told how special it was for her to be singing infront of a home audience.
She saved her best vocal performances until close to the end when she sung Skinny Love shortly followed by an upbeat version of her 2013 hit Wings.
Birdy closed the impressive show with another hit single from Beautiful Lies with Keeping Your Head Up, again the lyrics seemed almost perfect for the emotional state of the crowd, "Hold tight you're coming back to life".
The spellbound effect that her music had on the crowd had came to an end and fans had been treated to a musical journey that showed just how far Birdy has come - yet at the age of 20 the best is still yet to come, and many like me can't wait to hear it.
