Despite doing the rounds in the States since last year this week sees the official release of Harper Simon’s self-titled debut LP in the UK.
A lot of pressure is on the man. Being the son of Paul Simon cannot be easy and despite the obvious influences of his father and partner Art Garfunkel on certain tracks, Harper has stamped enough individuality on the record to make it his own.
Bluegrass rock on tracks like Shooting Star sees whining guitar partnered by Harper’s softly spoken voice on tales of travelling and discovering yourself.
Travelling provides the theme for many of the songs which gives the impression of Harper looking for who he is on this journey.
Tracks like Wishes and Stars are those which touch on the Simon & Garfunkel vibe.
The recurring theme of discovering ones self may speak out to the minds of many listeners and the album certainly won’t offend anybody with brash or loud pieces.
