THEY’VE come a long way since their debut in 2006, clocking up a faithful fan following and a Mercury Music Award.

And when Klaxons took to the stage at the 02 in Bournemouth on Saturday night they were greeted by their loyal followers, who just couldn’t stop dancing.

The five-piece from London burst onto the music scene four years ago with debut album Myths Of The Near Future and captured the imagination of both music fans and the industry. Branded as an alternative rock band, they fuse psychedelic tunes with catchy dance beats.

They showcased a mixture of old and new tunes at their latest gig, including foot-tapping tracks Magick and Echoes.

Their latest album, Surfing The Void, was released earlier this year and marks a clear progression in the band’s style. While new tracks like Twin Flames are definite crowd pleasers, it’s a departure from their previous sound – less commercial pop and a more grass roots rock vibe.

Popular anthems Golden Skans and It’s Not Over Yet had the crowd jumping in unison. Lead singer Jamie Reynolds, originally from Bournemouth, looked at home and interacted with the fans well. Although they didn’t sell out the venue they certainly rocked the place and we’ll no doubt be seeing more of them next year. Hayley stovold
