PEARL’S A Singer was a gem of a song that turned her into a household name.

And it will be top of the running order when Elkie Brooks steps on stage at The Concorde Club tonight.

Elkie is back by popular demand. But her latest appearance at the Stoneham Lane club also marks another milestone in the glittering career of the singer who was once dubbed as the original wild woman of rock ’n’ roll.

For Eastleigh is part of a nationwide tour which marks her 50 years in showbiz.

In the 60s, Elkie shared the bill with a star studded cast, including The Beatles and The Animals, on package tours.

It was on her 32nd birthday that Elkie, now solo, was to release a song that was to turn her into a household name.

Pearl’s A Singer, which became an instant anthem for her, was followed by a string of other hits including Sunshine After The Rain, Lilac Wine, and Don’t Cry Out Aloud.
