WHEREAS many 21-year-olds hope for instant fame on reality shows such as the X Factor or Britain’s Got Talent, Samantha Stevens from Verwood is hoping to go a different route.
With a love of musicals and Julie Andrews as her idol, Samantha admits reality TV isn’t for her.
“It’s a little bit over-produced for my taste,” she said.
“I like clear clarity of voice, it’s all about what you can do with your own vocal chords, not wrapping it round a computer with auto tuning and that sort of thing.”
First discovering her love of music having family sing-alongs in the car, Samantha joined the school choir at seven.
“I got hooked at that point and I just never stopped,” she added.
Samantha is now set to take the next step in her career with her own show at The Barrington Theatre in Ferndown.
Singing all her favourite show tunes, Samantha covers a number of genres including Les Miserables, Cabaret, West Side Story and Funny Girl.
She’s also made sure that there is plenty of acting and other theatrical elements and surprises to her show.
“It’s like a jukebox musical without a storyline basically,” she said.
“I love singing and I love performing so to be able to do something like that is really energising.”
The theatre allows the audience to enjoy the show in a relaxed cabaret style with chairs and tables randomly around the floor.
The show starts at 7.30pm on August 31.
