AS PART of Hampshire Open Studios 2013, three very talented local artists – Trudi Lloyd Williams, Anthony Lawrence and Jackie Giron – are displaying their superb work to the public.
Excelling with both unique modern sculpture and accomplished paintings, Lloyd Williams’ work is a delight. Hanging gracefully from the studio ceiling, The Snowmelt Chandelier is stunning.
Constructed from recycled bottles, cans and water pipes, it complements the smaller Snowmelt Wall Light, both pieces shimmering in plastic and aluminium.
Lloyd Williams’ whimsical ceramic head Florrie, and her four separate paintings of female nudes in acrylic, charcoal and watercolour are mesmeric, confirming Trudi Lloyd Williams’ growing reputation as one of Hampshire’s leading and most versatile artists.
Anthony Lawrence’s work is powerful, successfully exhibiting in the UK, Europe and America. His large paintings, particularly the oil on canvas Last Supper, are thought-provoking, his pencil portrait of Ian McKellen is revealing, and his dark wood studies are very atmospheric.
Jackie Giron produces lovely pieces in stoneware and porcelain with distinctive swirly patterns.
Also showing are a couple of Lloyd Williams’ videos, one a BBC production featuring Rolf Harris and Trudi enjoying an acknowledgement of Salvador Dali’s genius, the other video explaining how her beautiful Millings Chandelier progressed from its studio development to installation over a stream in the grounds of a Hampshire restaurant.
This entertaining ArtSway exhibition runs until August 26.
