AS Bestival organisers gear up for their four-day Desert Island Disco at Robin Hill starting tomorrow, they claim they will have the biggest disco ball in the world.

And just to prove it they have invited along judges from the Guinness World Records just to make sure!

Disco ball creator Rob da Bank is confident that they have produced a record-breaker.

“Can you believe it? We’ve only gone and cracked it – we’ve built a beauty and we’re certain this disco ball is a record breaker!” he said.

The current record for the largest disco ball is 9.98m but Bestival aims to beat that with a glitter ball that is over 10m.

Officials from Guinness World Records will be there to authenticate the claim.

Official Guinness World Records adjudicator Mark McKinley said: “I’m looking forward to coming down to Bestival to see the largest disco ball.

“There’s a lot of hype that this is the biggest in the world, but I’ll be the judge of that when I see and measure it for myself!

“Good luck to the organisers on their record-breaking challenge.”

  • THEY had Camp Bestival ‘licked’ when they went down a storm at the family festival in Dorset this summer.

Now Lips, the London-based all-women choir, will bring their energy-filled, eclectic set to the Isle of Wight’s Bestival this week.

Daily Echo:

Lips all-women choir will be at Bestival on Sunday

They take to the main stage at 11am on Sunday, with a set that features original arrangements bringing together music from popular and unique artists including George Michael, Gorgon City, Guns N Roses, Kelis and more.

Lips’ show at Bestival will echo past performances at the Coronet and the Union Chapel in London, where they have brought together more than 50 voices with a full electric band, taking a new approach to the traditional choir gig.

Musical co-director Kat Stark said: “We set up Lips five years ago to be something that we were struggling to find in London: a fun, non-auditioning space where women could sing, perform and party together.

“From the start we’ve set out to perform original arrangements that incorporate diverse genres.

“Whatever your age or tastes we’ll have something up our sleeve for you.”

Musical co-director Jessie Maryon-Davies said: “Since 2009 we’ve played gig venues, festival stages and even performed live on BBC One.

"In this, our fifth year, we’re pumped to be performing at Bestival – one of our fave festivals – and then to be bringing our show back to London, our home city, in December.”
