A DIFFERENT kind of history lesson is coming to Southampton’s Museum of Archaeology as Alys Hawkins brings her unique set of drawings Mysterious Histories to life.
After rummaging (gently) through the archives of the museum, Alys picked out a group of artefacts whose origins are unknown. Through her imagination and her pencil she has sketched each artefact to a larger scale so that they jump off the wall and into your mind, engaging you in the many stories that hide within them.
The exhibition runs alongside the current display at Southampton City Art Gallery – Grayson Perry’s Unpopular Culture. Alys’ drawings will be on show from Friday until May 3. There will also be an artist’s talk on Saturday, March 28 and a family drawing workshop on Tuesday, April 7.
Entry to the museum is £1.95, concessions £1 and under sevens free. Call 023 8091 5732 for details.
