SEVERAL nights of stunning opera are set for Grange Park Opera in Alresford this summer.
The season includes the UK premiere of Cavalli’s Eliogabalo, directed and designed by David Fielding. Christian Curnyn makes a welcome return to conduct this piece performed on early instruments.
There’s also Bellini’s Norma, with Claire Rutter in the title role. Claire is supported by Sara Fulgoni as Adalgisa, and Juan Carlos Valls as Pollione.
Martin Constantine directs this new production, with Stephen Barlow conducting the English Chamber Orchestra.
Janacek’s The Cunning Little Vixen is a new production directed by David Alden.
Sung in Czech with subtitles, this opera has Andre de Ridder conducting.
The programme continues with a concert performance of The Flying Dutchman with the Orchestra of Welsh National Opera. Elgar Howarth conducts.
And as always, there’s something unexpected when for one night only there’s A Night of Revelries, featuring Ray Davies of The Kinks. In the second half, organisers welcome the Ballet Boyz, Harry the Piano and some very sober Brahms.
Festival dates this year are from June 3 to July 6. Visit grangeparkopera.co.uk for more details.
