WELL I didn’t see that one coming.

I’ve gloated in this column in recent weeks that we at Echo Towers have correctly predicted all three of the main stage headliners for this year’s Isle of Wight Festival.

But Elton John and Snoop Dogg on the bill for Bestival’s tenth birthday bash? My crystal ball would have positively laughed out loud at the prospect.

Either act in isolation, I suspect, would not have quite worked in terms of a major announcement.

But the two together is a complete masterstroke by curator Rob da Bank who knows he has to go some to match last year’s Best Major Festival winning party on the Island.

The Bestival crowd are nothing if not colourful and the Rocket Man has cited that as a major reason why he decided to grace his first festival stage in years.

He tells us he’s dressed as Minnie Mouse, a French maid, the Eiffel Tower and the Statue of Liberty among his more flamboyant costumes.

So I can hardly wait to see what Captain Sir Elton comes as to steer the good ship HMS Bestival at this year’s nautical themed shindig.

I’m thinking Popeye, A Viking or even Moby Dick.

Whatever he decides to don, it’s bound to be every bit as bizarre as Bestival.
