SOMETIMES it’s just impossible not to fall asleep on the job!
I do it myself on occasion after burning the candle at both ends. When you’ve been at a late gig or show several nights on the trot and have to drag yourself out of bed again at the crack of dawn, it’s difficult to resist a little shut eye at your desk of an afternoon.
But it’s rather more embarrassing when you nod off on live TV.
But still, at least Morgan Freeman has come up with a novel excuse for his little power nap, which left Michael Caine to face the questions of Fox News presenters on their latest movie Now You See Me.
He used Facebook to tell fans: “Regarding my recent interview, I wasn’t actually sleeping. I’m a beta tester for Google Eyelids and I was merely taking the opportunity to update my Facebook page!”
That little gem reminded me of my lovely late granddad who used to convince us kids that he was just resting his eyes, rather than having a full on snooze on the sofa in front of Last of the Summer Wine on a Sunday evening.
I feel bad for poor old Morgan, who was probably exhausted by another promotional tour. He did seem terribly bored when asked just one question related to the journalist’s daughter and her role in a school play, answering simply that you have to be a ‘good reader’ to be a top narrator.
I’m afraid these junkets are rather painful.
The journalist is rarely allowed to ask anything that isn’t directly related to the film, which by virtue of dragging out both these film legends, is probably awful.
Still, looking on the bright side, it could bode well.
If Will Smith’s retro rap star interview on the Graham Norton Show didn’t entrance audiences and critics, who have panned After Earth, then maybe this approach will work?
Morgan Freeman – superstar actor.
So good he can do interviews in his sleep.
