ISN’T it wonderful to see British films, actors and directors doing so well during awards season?
The fabulous Slumdog Millionaire with Danny Boyle at the helm received four Golden Globes at a rather glamorous ceremony in Hollywood this week.
And, of course, our very own Kate Winslet scooped both the Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress accolades for her roles in Revolutionary Road and The Reader.
But, just one little observation if I may?
While Danny Boyle kept it very straight and down-to-earth and explained that it was a very good day for him because his team Man United had beaten Chelsea, Kate Winslet was, for want of a better word, nauseating.
Admittedly it must be rather difficult not to seem false when plonked on stage with the world’s eyes on you. But she is, after all, a top actress who surely could have at least successfully pretended to be humble.
From the look on Kate’s face when her name was read out, you would have thought something of planetary importance had just occurred.
She fully deserved her two awards, but if only she could have kept the gasps and tearful effusions to herself.
I very much like Kate, but she really has to tone down the overemotional speeches.
I do hope she hasn’t gone too Hollywood on us and knows how to pitch the inevitable BAFTA acceptance to a British audience next month.
