GRAB your granny knickers and a glass of cheap plonk and get ready to bop to girlie classics like It’s Raining Men – Bridget Jones is set to become a musical!
In what could easily be the most popular new musical creation in years, Britain’s favourite singleton is heading for London’s West End according to reports.
The story, of a loveable thirty something who writes a diary about her desperate attempts to find a man and lose some pounds round her waist, is sure to be a huge hit on stage after transferring from Helen Fielding’s original newspaper columns to two bestselling books and two hit films.
The show is said to be just two years away and I can hardly wait!
The only disappointment for me is that Renee Zellweger, Colin Firth and Hugh Grant are not expected to reprise their roles as Bridget, Mark Darcy and Daniel Cleaver.
Whoever takes up the challenge of recreating three of the most significant roles in 21st Century chick lit has a huge challenge ahead of them.
The trio were so perfectly cast that I cannot imagine anyone who could pull off such a funny yet fabulous Bridget, a misguided yet charming Mark and a dastardly yet sexy Daniel.
I do hope they change their minds. It won’t be the same without them.
