It’s a business which is all about family, settled in the idyllic Hampshire countryside.

Jonathan Grant is proud to provide his customers with a traditional pub with all the delights of cosy home-cooked food and real-ale.

The Hunter’s Inn has been serving people across Hampshire for more than 40 years, and has been an Ale House for more than 300.

It was passed on to John when his father decided to retire and now with the help of his friendly staff The Hunter’s is a popular pub in the village of Swanmore.

He said: “I have been in hospitality all my life and really love cooking, we try to do as much as we can to keep it local and home-made here because that is what is important to our customers.

“I really like to get to know the customers and we have done a lot here to make people feel at home, it’s important to keep the old-fashioned pubs alive.”

And it’s a pub with a rare set-up.

As well as all the original building, The Hunter’s has been extended to house a bakery, butchery and kitchen in the back so that the pub staff can provide the freshest food possible.

“I’ve been told that it’s not really normal to have that out the back, but it’s great, with my background in cooking I like to make the cakes and we have a butcher that comes to do the meat every week, it’s a really good way of working.”

The Hunter’s is known for looking after their regulars, with their own loyalty card and space to accommodate events and parties for people in the village.

“We are very conscious that this is a country pub for people that will want to come and enjoy a meal, but we don’t want people to worry about money so it’s all good quality but at a reasonable price.”

With the real ales coming in at £3 a pint and their most expensive beer, a Kronenburg costing £4 a pint as well as the house wine costing £2.25 and a Sunday roast is £7.95, it’s clear that Jonathan has done everything he can to keep villagers happy.

And he is always keen to embrace the countryside roots of his pub, with an extensive garden and play area for children.

He added: “We love that this is a family pub and really want everyone to feel welcome.”
