IT is the ultimate family bar.

Owned, renovated and run by two brothers, JKS Winebar is an exciting new venue.

The bar has been a labour of love for Nick and Sean Patterson, who threw open the doors only a month ago.

Dad-of-three Nick, 30, is a full-time carpenter and used his skills to help transform a shell of a building into the bar the pair had always wanted.

Meanwhile chef and cooking lecturer Sean, 26, set about putting together a menu and training new members of staff.

In keeping with the theme of family, the bar’s name comes from the initials of Nick’s three children, Joshua, Kyra and Shannon, and the logo is a silhouette of their profiles.

The brothers wanted a pub that would offer the people of the town something different.

With stylish decor, a warm atmosphere and good prices, they are hoping to attract mature regulars who might not otherwise be drawn into Eastleigh.

The food is the remit of Sean who has cooked everywhere from fine-dining restaurants and cruise ships to industrial sites and school canteens.

On his own lovingly devised menu he has a series of British pub favourites such as burgers, ham, egg and chips and lamb shoulder, where everything is home-made right down to the nachos and, where possible, using local produce and suppliers.

He has also included some more exotic options, such as pork Normandy, but sticks to his guiding principle of making homely comfort food, and the place is already becoming known for its good value and large portions.

He said: “We wanted to be classy but not snobby. Most people are surprised how reasonable our prices are and how big the portion is.

“We want to serve good, honest food that never leaves people feeling hungry or unsatisfied.”

He went on to say all the staff were getting trained and have opportunity to get qualifications in the trade. He said the workers were the reason the venue was developing a reputation for outstanding customer service.

Being an independent bar, the brothers, both from Eastleigh, don’t have to order drinks from any one brewery and select their wine and beers from different local suppliers. They have added a few to their collection at the request of customers.

It expects to be the first place in the town to carry Stella Black – a new drink to hit the streets in the coming weeks.

Nick said: “We wanted a place where people can come for a nice pint and relax, trouble-free, having a good time in a nice place that doesn’t have sticky floors.”

Despite only being open for a few weeks the brothers have already hosted a couple of charity evenings and are looking at live music events, comedians and theme nights.
