THE Mayflower theatre will stage its first ever Summer Youth Project this year.

Organisers are looking for ten to 18-yearolds to make up the company of a production of Bugsy Malone, the culmination of a twoweek Summer Youth Project which will be performed on August 30 and 31.

Building on the success of The Mayflower Summer School, which is also returning for a week in August, the Youth Project will be two weeks of hard work by more than 200 local young people alongside professionals from the industry to create a fullyfledged musical with 1930s style on The Mayflower stage.

Join Fat Sam, who runs one of the most popular speakeasies in town, as he fights to stop his ‘business rival’ Dandy Dan from closing his speakeasy down.

Enter baby-faced Bugsy Malone, a killer with the ladies and a definite asset to Fat Sam.

Unfortunately, Bugsy has also caught the eye of Sam’s girlfriend Tallulah – though he’s set his designs on the showgirl Blousey Brown.

Mayflower chief executive Michael Ockwell said: “Developing the next generation of theatregoers is a real passion of mine, and this Summer Youth Project is the ideal vehicle to engage with young people, giving them a real connection to professional theatre.

“This is an opportunity to have fun, learn new skills and meet other young people interested in theatre.”

Auditions are on Sunday, April 7 at the theatre and no previous experience is necessary.

The project will cost £150 and participants must be available from August 18 to 31.
