THREE reluctant sons meet to celebrate a widow’s wedding anniversary. The mum, Viv Slingsby, gives an excellent performance as a ruthless, malevolent harridan, scheming all the while to keep control of the lives of her sons.
The shy eldest son, Henry (Graham Oxtoby), lives at home and is dominated by his mother, but he has a “secret”.
Terry (newcomer Richard Cory) is also weak-willed but has finally bucked up courage to say he is emigrating with his wife, feisty Karen (Karen Lindley).
Laid-back youngest son Tom (Steve Pickett) has arrived with a girl-friend Shirley (Chloe Black).
The cast were all on fine form and gave believable representations in this comedy-drama that kept the supper-club format audience fully entertained. All had to demonstrate a range of emotions.
Director Will Johnson used the pleasing set design by Jill Lloyd to full effect with crafted and appropriate stage movement and grouping.
