AN elderly Argentinian grandmother with a ravenous appetite is eating her family out of house and home, both literally and figuratively – how will they survive?
TFT’s latest production is a very dark, grotesque comic drama that takes a satirical view of disturbing family dynamics. As the younger generations attempt to cope with the fallout of their eldest relative’s dementia and ravenous appetite, at times this was uncomfortable to watch due to the cast’s credibility, yet with surreal humour that compelled laughter.
Mira Jean Howard’s performance as the centenarian Nona perfectly captured the essence of the character, with a terrific accent, physicality and timing; Rob Smith was also excellent, commanding the stage as her youngest grandson, Chicho, while Georgina Gulliford and Kevin Fraser once again gave strong performances (particularly with their non-verbal stage business skills).
The well-designed set was used to good effect with Argentine tango music enhancing the ambience.
