IN this all female cast, Vicky Wilson (Petruchio) once again shows herself to be an admirable Shakespearian actor, capturing the machismo nature of the worst type of man, in her/ his bid to tame feisty and irrepressible Miriam Roe (Katherine) – the elder daughter, who must be married before her demure younger sister, Jess Cosier (Bianca) can be courted.
After hatching a cunning plan with his manservant Tranio (multi-accented Anne Waggott), Jess Lind (Lucentio) finally succeeds in securing her affections.
Set in the beautiful grounds of IBM Hursley, on a summer evening the performance would have been a real treat but for the frustrating sound levels, which lost unfamiliar words and therefore jilted the story.
Aside from that there were some excellent performances and the show progressed at an appropriate pace, allowing the actors to bring out not only the humour, but the unspoken nuances of relationships in a timeless fashion.
The undefeated glint in Kate’s eye as the metaphorical curtain closed gave a hint of the story to come!
